📚 Guide to Civil Services Eligibility Criteria (2026 Exam Cycle)
Preparing for competitive examinations like the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the UPSC or State Services (Rajyaseva) conducted by the MPSC requires strict compliance with age limits, attempts, and academic qualifications. Use the calculator above to check your status, and review the detailed parameters below:
1. UPSC Civil Services Eligibility
- Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India for IAS and IPS. For other services, citizens of Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees who arrived before January 1, 1962, are eligible.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold a graduation degree from any recognized university. Candidates in their final year of graduation are also eligible to apply for the Preliminary exam.
- Age Limit & Attempts (As of August 1st of the exam year):
- General Category / EWS: 21 to 32 years. Limit: 6 attempts.
- OBC Category: 21 to 35 years. Limit: 9 attempts.
- SC / ST Category: 21 to 37 years. Limit: Unlimited attempts until the age limit.
- PwBD (Differently Abled): 21 to 42 years. Limit: 9 attempts (Unlimited for SC/ST PwBD).
2. MPSC State Services (Rajyaseva) Eligibility
- Educational Qualification: University graduation degree. Sound knowledge of the Marathi language (written and spoken) is highly recommended since descriptive mains and interviews are conducted partially in Marathi.
- Age Limit & Attempts:
- General (Open) Category: 19 to 38 years.
- Reserved Categories (SC, ST, OBC, EWS): 19 to 43 years.
- Attempt Limits: In recent administrative reforms, MPSC has removed the attempt limits. Candidates can attempt the exam unlimited times within their specified age brackets.
